I just read why he didn’t want to shapeshift too much. Before I continue reading, I need to comment something first. That’s such a flimsy excuse. His intellect is through the roof so I’d be easy to memorize his face. Even if his psyche is interfering with his memory, he could’ve just stored the properties of each of his cells, even just the cells on his face, in one of his knowledge skills so he can reconstruct it whenever he wants to. With his intellect, he should’ve found that out so it’s either the author wasn’t able to think of that due to time constraints or there’s an underlying issue I didn’t notice or wasn’t privy to yet. I hope the author can explain it later down the line or this’ll be a plot hole.
Keep in mind that MC is very intelligent but author is just like us mortals.
