“Gobby…” The archer looked at her lover worriedly as he stood up.

I was also looking at him with complicated feelings. Although I had recently given him a name, he was mostly just a servant to me. His breeding harem had been picked on a whim, and even if he died, it was better for him than for me. However, I had to admit that his willingness to act as a decoy boss and sacrifice his life left me feeling a bit warm on the inside.

In my previous world, I had no friends. My parents had given up all hope on me and the only conversations we had usually developed into them yelling at me for being useless. Even online, I tended to troll others more than share hobbies. I made my community the other trolls and haters, and if we weren’t united by a common enemy, we were usually insulting each other for fun. Suffice it to say, I had never been exposed to feelings of loyalty or comradery in my former life. So, Gobby’s bravery left me feeling a bit complicated.

Gobby pulled his blade. It was a normal steel sword, except that it had an inscription on it. This one gave the blade increased sharpness, making it a magic sword. Durability and weight reduction were the only inscriptions in Diamond’s eyes, but Misty said that Sharpness was pretty good too. Supposedly, it not only made a sword sharp and resistant to nicks and dulling but also made it unnecessary to sharpen it, as the blade would automatically sharpen itself over time.

Diamond rejected it because it had limited uses, only applying to weapons with a blade. It wasn’t nearly as ubiquitous as the other two inscriptions. It also used about twice the ink, so it could be considered more expensive to produce. I had considered making a set of kitchen knives, but such items didn’t appear in my dungeon store, so I had to settle for a short steel sword. Since I had to make one to practice it anyway, I figured it was fitting for the head of the goblin tribe to have a magic sword. I just never imagined that his reign would be so short-lived.

Gobby let out a shout and then raced at River. Although he was still short for a human, he was muscular and ferocious. Since River was a loli, she was quite short herself, and his height nearly matched hers. If I heard that shout and saw a goblin-like him racing at me with a sword in hand, I would have been terrified. For River, he appeared about equal, yet, River barely reacted. She merely brandished her rapier, as if to show him at least a small degree of respect she didn’t show the rats.

Gobby slashed with his longsword, but River didn’t move. Her posture didn’t change, other than a slight turn of the wrist, and her blade connected with his. Gobby was thrown back, and his sword fell out of his hand, sliding across the floor.

She tilted her head. “A magic sword? How interesting.”

River waited patiently as Gobby fell into a roll and then grabbed his sword again. He spun back to her. She didn’t flinch at all, not even a single reaction. She simply held her rapier ready, a faint smile on her face.

Gobby shouted, then jumped, bringing his sword down toward her head. Her rapier moved slightly, parrying his blade, but she didn’t move her feet at all. It was so smooth and fast, that I wasn’t sure how much force was put into the attack, but Gobby flew back like it was an incredible amount of force. This time, when he fell back, Gobby fell to the ground and skidded for a good distance. A long gash had appeared across his chest, and his makeshift armor was torn and bloody.

I regretted not giving him magic armor too. If he had durability, he might have been able to resist that strike. However, it would have been overkill for a mob like him to be so well-equipped. Furthermore, the armor was a one-size-fits-all deal and didn’t fit a goblin all that well. It could have just as easily limited his mobility. Either way, even with armor, it was obvious he wouldn’t have been able to deal with River.

River took another step toward Gobby, looking to finish the deed. That’s when the archer suddenly stood up in his way. Although her foot was chained, Gobby had landed near his throne, and she had just enough slack to stand between them.

“Please, don’t kill him!” The archer cried out.

River frowned. “You’re standing up for this monster?”

“He’s not a monster! I love him!” She sniffled, tears falling down her cheeks. “Please, he takes care of me.”

River tilted her head. “Stockholm?”

“The dungeon takes care of us.” The crazy girl spoke up boldly.

“Please don’t take our pleasure away!” the white mage whimpered.

One by one, the girls threw themselves onto the goblin, using their bodies to protect him from River’s attacks, even though River hadn’t taken a step forward. River stared at the women, who all stared back with pleading expressions. This also left me feeling complicated, and just a tad jealous. By all accounts, Gobby was just an extension of me. Until I named him, he couldn’t even speak.

When did my goblin become such a Chad? It had only been a short week or so, yet they were all willing to die to protect him. I had to glance over at Misty before I could calm myself down. She was hotter than all five of them and completely loyal to me.

River sighed. “Fine, I won’t kill your… man. However, my demand is the same. My protege Misty, where are you hiding her?”

“Misty has come to this dungeon several times.” It was the crazy girl who spoke up. “However, every time, she falls into a trap and the dungeon expels her. She kept coming back though. Perhaps she’s a masochist?”

I didn’t know where she had learned about Misty’s past. However, the crazy girl had been in captivity around the time I had captured Misty. Although I thought they were delirious and couldn’t hear anything, she must have picked up on some of the conversations I shared with Diamond, or perhaps Diamond had told her something while they traveled back to the city together.

“Where is she now?” River’s eyes narrowed.

“W-we don’t know!” The girl cried out defensively. “After she was defeated and stripped naked as punishment, she left and never returned. Maybe she was too ashamed and killed herself! Maybe bandits killed her on the way! She was weak and pathetic. Wherever she went, she’s not in his dungeon!”

Misty could hear her words too, and her eyebrow twitched as she listened to herself being ridiculed. I wanted to comfort her, but I was still in my spectator form and couldn’t touch her. River’s expression hadn’t changed, and it was anyone’s guess what she was thinking. After a few more tense moments, she snorted and stowed away her rapier.

She held out her empty hand. “The key. I will let you be, but this dungeon must die. You can relocate, as I will send a party to clear out these ruins once I return.”

My heart went cold and Gobby tensed. River didn’t know everything. She seemed to think Gobby was merely an interloper, someone who entered and took over the dungeon. She didn’t realize Gobby was a dungeon mob. If I died, he would be destroyed as well. There was no way he could accept those conditions.

“Let her pass.” I gave him the order, and after a moment, he pulled out a key and tossed it.

She caught the key and nodded. “Good choice.”

She walked passed him and the women currently nursing his wounds and entered the makeshift hut built behind the throne. This was his home, as well as a door which led to one more room. She opened the door with a click and then stepped into an octagonal room. There was a small chest with some silver and gold, a dozen or so potions, and a full set of magical armor as well as a weight reduction bag. In short, it was a treasure room. In the center was a glowing orb.

She pulled out the rapier and then took several steps. Just as she was about to shatter the orb, she froze. I held my breath as I watched her freeze. She then pulled the sword back, glancing around the room again.

“A puzzle room?” She seemed curious as she picked up the core, looking at it closely. “A fake core.”

My heart dropped a bit. This was my ace in the hole, the newest and most creative part of the dungeon. It was a fake final room. Once someone defeated Gobby, that’d naturally think they were finished. They could then enter the treasure room and take a good lump of treasure. I had already finished a second set of armor, so it became a compromise. With luck, they’d leave, but even if they decided to destroy the core, it was a fake.

The core cost a pretty penny and was probably more than half of my renovation cost, but it was worth it in my mind. It was the equivalent of a second life. I never would have guessed that it would be seen through the first time it was used. Had she destroyed it and then left, I would have at least had some time to turn things around. However, she had blown through every deterrent I had.  My only choice left was to hope a demonized Misty and my Cyclops could defeat her. I even considered naming him to give him a boost, but it turned out the DP cost of naming him was more than I had.

“If I destroyed the core, then it’d trigger a trap. Specifically, the real stairway leading down would be sealed for forty-eight hours.” She mumbled to herself, somehow unlocking all the secrets with just a touch.

It turned out that forty-eight hours was the maximum time I could detain a heroine in such a trap. Had Sandy succeeded in locking her up, she would only have been stuck for two days. It was the same for this trap. It was one of those anonymous rules of a dungeon. I could add that chains, bone cages, tentacles, and pits didn’t count as restraint. Only a door that blocked someone’s ability to leave or continue.

I watched with a sigh as River returned the orb unmolested. She didn’t take the treasure either. Instead, she walked out of the treasure room with nothing. When she returned to the Goblin Champion’s hut, she looked around consideringly. Her eyes landed on his bed. It was a simple bed on a bed frame. Normally, a goblin would just sleep in bedding on the floor, but I felt that a Goblin Champion had enough status that his having a real bed made sense.

River didn’t agree. She kicked the bed over, revealing that directly under the frame was a stairway heading down to the 6th floor. This was the real reason I had given Gobby a bed frame. I had thought its disguise was perfect. People would enter the treasure room and destroy the core before even realizing there was a stairway under there. By the time they heard it closing, it’d be too late, and they’d just have to take their award and go or waste another two days in a village full of hostile goblins.

She began to head down the stairway, and I nodded to the cyclops. If we were going to defeat River, I didn’t want to depend on luck. That’s why the Cyclops would attack first, and then open up a moment for Misty to land the killing blow. River couldn’t see Misty until that moment. The hope was to use her moment of surprise to deal the fatal blow.

“Are you sure you can do this?” I asked Misty.

“Although River took good care of me… she was never too generous,” Misty responded. “Although she trained me and gave me advice, she never directly helped me with anything. She never was willing to help me with my sister, nor did she give me a place to sleep or food to eat, even though she could have helped me more easily. Thus, I respect her, but since she has come to destroy my home, I won’t hesitate to protect what Master has built.”

Her answer calmed me down quite a bit. As long as I had Misty on my side, I still felt like things might work themselves out. The pair of us continued to watch as River finally came out on level six, the final boss room. This room was newly designed. The old boss room was turned into the goblin village, but the new one took into consideration the Cyclops’s identity.

For example, I removed the columns. They didn’t benefit the Cyclops who had bad depth perception and only aided in those fighting him.  I also shrunk the room by half, giving them way less room to dodge and avoid the cyclops’s wide attacks. There was still a throne, but it wasn’t up on any steps, and where the old boss room had been shadowy, this one was very brightly lit, giving someone a feel like there was nowhere to hide.

These decisions were made after discussions with both Diamond and Misty, and I agreed that this room felt a lot more like a boss showdown. Even just bringing the ceiling down a lot made the Cyclops look larger and more menacing. One should never forget psychology when talking about defending their dungeon, and this room was a lot more intimidating to a heroine.

That said, River looked at unperturbed as always. The Cyclops didn’t say anything either. He just stood up and lifted his club, enchanted with weight reduction. This was an idea I had. The girls told me I was foolish, but I knew enough from my school days to know that weight and mass were two different things. If the Cyclops could lift it easier, he could swing it easier, and being lighter didn’t mean having less momentum. Well, the Cyclops liked the lighter weapon, so that was that.

“So… the goblin upstairs was a decoy.” River stopped and spoke. “Are you the real master of this dungeon? No… that doesn’t seem right. You’re too basic. You’re not even named, so how could you control a dungeon? Does this dungeon even have a master?”

Her eyes widened as a realization struck her. She had thought I was just a weak dungeon being controlled by a strong monster, but if that wasn’t true, then the only alternative was that the dungeon was doing this on its own. That meant I was an intelligent dungeon. Her realization meant that she needed to die that much more certainly.

“Dungeon, speak now, or I’ll stop being polite.”  Her expression darkened.

I let out a sigh. There was no point in hiding things any longer. She had already come this far, so we might as well confront each other.

“Why are you here?” I asked.

“I’m here because Misty is here.” She declared. “That kid… I promised her mom I’d protect her.”

Who was this Loli calling a kid?  I immediately put those thoughts out of my mind. I had a feeling that she might attack me if she knew I was calling her a child.

“You have already spoken to several of my monsters and even heroines. Why are you so convinced Misty is here?” As I asked that question, Misty shifted uncomfortably.

River sneered. “Calling those wannabe F-rank heroines is an insult to heroines. They wouldn’t even be an F rank if the guild had any ranking lower than F. How could their words be trusted?”

“Even if you don’t trust anyone in my dungeon, you have already traveled its entire length. Do you not trust your own eyes?”

“I have a reliable source, and this source assures me that Misty is being held captive here. You’re pushing my patience, dungeon. Bring her out now, or face the consequences. I have already seen enough to classify you as a class B threat. No, even they wouldn’t be able to play have the tricks you have.” She looked like she was considering something for a moment before glaring back at the Cyclops.

“I will provide you with an answer, but please answer one last question of mine,” I spoke, a sudden foreboding feeling in my gut.

If it came to blows, I still wanted the maximum amount of information. Since she still hadn’t attacked, I wanted to keep her talking as long as possible. As for why I didn’t bring Misty out, the answer should be obvious. Once she saw Misty had become a demon, she would definitely kill me. She might even kill Misty as well. Our only chance was to catch her off guard with the element of surprise. While I was keeping her talking, I signaled Misty to also get into position.

“Ask…” River narrowed her eyes dangerously.

“Who was your source?”

A dangerous glint appeared in her eyes and as she smiled devilishly. She then reached under her cloak and pulled out a bag. She turned the bag upside down and something slid out. It hit the ground with a thud before rolling away from River a couple of feet. When it stopped, I allowed myself to look at it from spectator mode.

Lying on the ground was a severed head. However, it wasn’t any head, but a head that I was all too familiar with. It was the decapitated head of Diamond!

“Now, I’m done playing games.” River drew her rapier once again. “I’m only going to ask this one last time. Where is Misty?”

Did she actually kill Diamond or is this more of a Mimir situation I hope it’s the second and Diamond can get her body back at some point.

No I remember she is some kind of spirit creature but I was thinking that if anybody could kill her it would be a guild master.
