Concept Stories - Friendzone – Chapter 5
Standing over the elf girl, my words caught in my throat. I hadn’t realized it at the time, but if someone failed to complete their mandate, you could order a new mandate, but only for the same person. I had already broken up Craig and Denise for the night. That had been my greatest concern. Now, I could take advantage of this elf girl. All I had to do was order her to have sex with me. So, why did I hesitate?
As bitter as I had become over these years of being friendzoned, I wasn’t a complete asshole. I was desperately horny, but was I going to fuck some random slut in the back of an alley? I didn’t even know her name. Worse, she would remember everything, and might even claim I tried to rape her, or in some way coerced her into sex. I mean, it was true, but she had no way of knowing that. To her, it would be a lie, but women like her didn’t hesitate to lie. I had seen it countless times as a friend.
On the other hand, I had Andromeda’s quota to think about. I had to break five virgins and I only had a few months to do it or I’d lose my soul. This would get me started on my way, while if I did nothing, I’d be wasting a good mandate. However, I wasn’t some idiot who only thought with his penis, despite what Andromeda said. I did have standards, and while this girl might be attractive, I didn’t know anything about her, and I’d feel like trash if I cheated on my love Denise like that. My mind went back and forth between the two options a dozen times, and finally, I could do nothing but let out a sigh.
“Elf girl…” I looked down at her as she was still panting to herself. “Forget everything up until the point before you first saw me.”
I sent out my mandate and then ducked behind a trashcan. The girl shuttered a moment, and then looked up, blinking like she was confused. After a moment, she seemed to realize where she was. She stood up and dusted herself off, frowning as she looked around the alley. Not able to come up with any answers, she walked back into the bar.
“Pussy.” Andromeda spoke through the mark.
She was probably right. If was bolder, I could have had my way with a perfectly attractive girl. Instead, I was too worried about the consequences and chose the safe option. If this wasn’t in my nature, then I never would have been friend-zoned so many times in the first place. Feeling like a complete looser, I stood up and left the alley along the outside. As I did so, I got a phone call. I knew from the ringtone that it was Denise. She was naturally upset over what happened with Craig.
“What’s up?” I asked in a tired voice.
“Max…” Her muffled, snotty voice came over the phone. “A-are you awake? I need a friend right now.”
I looked at my watch. It was already midnight. Since we had class at 7 am, any respectable student would have been in bed. Denise knew that, but she didn’t hesitate to call me anyway, even if it meant waking me up. This was the life of a friend, after all.
“Yeah, I’m up,” I answered truthfully.
“You’ll never… never guess what Craig did to me!” She blew her nose.
“Did he cheat on you?” I asked.
“Ah! H=how did you… Craig isn’t like that!”
I opened my mouth, not sure how to respond. “He didn’t?”
“I-it must have been the girl! Some floozy hoe tempted him! My boyfriend would never cheat on me otherwise!”
My hand clenched. Sometimes, talking to girls felt a bit like talking to a wall. At least, you got as much from the conversation.
“You’re probably right.” I agreed, knowing that arguing with her would only cause her to hang up on me.
“H-he said he only went into the alley because he thought she wanted to confess to him and was letting her down gently.” She suddenly spoke shyly. “You’re a guy. Do you think he was telling the truth?”
Hell no, Bitch!
That’s what I wanted to say, but there was no way a friend zone friend could be honest. Even when you were just looking out for her best interest, if it didn’t support what she already believed, she would insist you’re being jealous and trying to just break them up.
“Maybe,” I answered noncommittally. “Do you want to take the chance though?”
It was the closest I could get to being honest without causing her rage.
“I… don’t want to think about it tonight. Look, I walked off Craig and I don’t have a ride home. Can you pick me up?”
I frowned. “Where are you?”
“I don’t know. I’m just walking down the street somewhere. Can’t you find me?”
I was left speechless once again. Presuming I didn’t know where she was, how did she expect me to find her? Thankfully, I knew where she had been, where she was going, and how long she had been going there. I walked out to the edge of the ally and looked down the street. Predictably, Denise was walking down the street in her high heels in the middle of the night.
Denise didn’t have any self-awareness. I knew that this area was adjacent to the campus, and was thus relatively safe when it came to knights and mages. Denise was a knight, so even if a normal person tried to make advances on her in her tipsy state, she could still mop the floor with them. It was the principal of the thing. A young girl walking alone dressed like that in the middle of the night never looked good.
This was probably why Craig stormed off rather than remain waiting for her. He must have driven off angrily when she wouldn’t get back in the car. I could only shake my head and sigh over the drama. It was nothing I hadn’t seen before.
“Yeah, I’ll find you,” I told her.
“Thanks.” She responded, still sniffling. “You’re the best friend a girl could ask for!”
I winced. “Yeah, I know.”
I headed to my car, but I waited for a bit. If I immediately found her, she might think I was following her or something. I had to make it look like I was coming from the campus, rather than coming from the club to keep from looking like a creep. Regrettably, I had too much experience with such things. After watching her continue to walk off into the night for fifteen minutes, I finally started my car. I went along a parallel street and drove past her, then did a U-turn so approached from the direction of the academy.
A few minutes later, I pulled up to the young sniffling girl on the side of the road. I pulled down the window, trying to look cool.
“Need a ride, baby?”
She looked down and then rolled her eyes. “Max, I’m not in the mood.”
Although she said that, a small smile formed on her lips as she got in. Seeing her all dressed up nicely and sitting next to me, my heart couldn’t help but race. She was stunning. Her hair was made up delicately, her make-up was on point, and her dress fit her perfectly, showing off the curves of her body. The way her dress slid up her thigh as she got in my car gave me a good look at the garter holding up her stockings.
She was a perfect ten. Denise was always beautiful, but tonight she was exceptionally sexy. This wasn’t the first night that I had seen her dressed up like this, but I could probably count the times on my fingers, and every one of them only made me desire her more. If only I could use my mandate to have her in bed. However, she would remember it, and when she regained her faculties, it could destroy everything we built. Was a single time with her worth losing all of it? Ultimately, I decided it was better to keep the status quo than risk it.
I am helpless. I couldn’t help but think.
I noticed her face turned slightly embarrassed, and I had to turn away and start driving, or else she might call me out for staring at her. This was one of the so-called tenants of a friendzone. She would tolerate and ignore any desire or want in your eyes up to a point, but if she had to speak it out loud, it was acknowledging it, and then your friend zone would start to shrink. If you let that zone shrink too much, you’d be pushed right out of it. That wouldn’t mean you’d become her boyfriend, but rather that creep that won’t leave her alone and can’t take no.
“So, what happened?” I asked her for details, even though I had witnessed everything myself.
She sniffled again and started to tell me everything. Of course, her version of the invents tried to paint Craig in the best light, almost like she was afraid of criticizing him too far. In her version of events, a succubus practically raped him, and he desperately called for help while Denise coldly allowed her jealousy to keep her from saving him.
“I shouldn’t have gotten out of the car.” She muttered to herself., finishing her tale, “I ruined our night.”
If she had paid attention to my hands, she would have seen my knuckles white around the steering wheel. I had gotten her to catch Craig cheating red-handed, and she had managed to warp the entire event into a misunderstanding that she owed Craig an explanation. Just how much did some asshole have over her heart?
“You… shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You’re a wonderful person.” I told her.
“R-really?” She sniffed. “Do you mean it?”
Ultimately, this was the gravy that kept every friendzone going. Women wanted an inexhaustible supply of compliments from men. They wanted to talk down about themselves to alleviate any guilt for their actions, but then they wanted someone else to boost them back up so they ultimately felt good about themselves. Women would use each other for this, but sometimes, that would backfire as the women would then go and talk about each other behind their backs. Thus, the friend zone was created, the male companion that would satisfy all of your emotional needs without you needing to reciprocate a single desire.
“We’re here.” I sighed, finally forcing my fingers off the steering wheel as I pulled up in front of the female dorm.
I couldn’t go in there, even if I wanted to. The place was a practical fortress, surrounded by guards, many of them female knights and mages. The male dorm was watched too, but not nearly as heavily. If a woman headed over there, she knew what she was getting into. Meanwhile, no guy was allowed over here. It was the most the school could do to try to keep everyone acting pure.
Denise paused for a second before getting out, reaching over and gently touching my hand. “I know you were probably asleep. Thank you for coming out to get me. You are a good friend.”
I forced a smile back on my face. “I know.”
That was the most emotional involvement she’d ever put into our relationship. She gave me a gentle smile and then left the car. A female guard she recognized waved to her and she waved back, already practically forgetting about me. I waited in the car quietly for a moment.
“You are pathetic. I didn’t give you my power so you could strike out.” A voice sounded from next to me.
I looked to see Andromeda sitting there. “Just, leave me alone tonight.”
I just wanted to curl up in my bed and forget about the world. Andromeda was the last person I wanted to think about tonight.
“Maybe, tonight isn’t a loss just yet.” The door next to me opened.
“What is tha-” I turned to see Andromeda missing, but on the other side of the door was someone I didn’t want to see, Sophie.
She got into my car and closed the door. There was an oppressive air about her as she sat, staring straight ahead. I couldn’t help but think about the last time we spoke, with her on her knees servicing me. That had just been yesterday. Now, it was time to face the consequences, and I had no Mandates to give.
“Drive.” She spoke icily. “We need to talk.”
I really like all versions of this story and hope one day one of them gets greenlit.
