My Boss and I - My Boss and I – Chapter 19-20
I stormed into the room containing the familiar woman. As soon as the door closed, I shot her a glare.
“You turned me gay!” I snapped.
She blinked. “I certainly did not!”
“I mean… I’m attracted to men!”
“Not to sound antiquated, but isn’t that expected of a woman?” She asked, grinning coyly.
“Don’t play with me! You didn’t just alter my body, but you change my mind too! Now, I’m interested in men where I was once into women!”
She let out a sigh. “I know you wish for this to be true, but it simply is not.”
“What are you saying?”
“Humans are curious creatures. You create your reality. It’s remarkable how much of how you perceive reality is based on your assumptions.”
“…”
“Let’s take an example. Many of you claim to believe in science. You’ll trust science with your health, your life, and your livelihood. If they talk of global warming, you believe in it. Yet, a good deal of those same people believed in ghosts and an afterlife, something that doesn’t fit scientific reasoning at all.”
“Don’t you prove that an afterlife exists?”
“I do?” She grinned. “Only if you perceive me to prove that.”
“You…”
“My point is, that as a man, you never allowed yourself to see other men that way. You had a mental block that kept you from appreciating the same sex sexually, When you became a girl, that block went away.”
“No…” I shook my head. “It’s… testosterones. I don’t have those, and I have estrogen instead, right?”
She smiled. “if that makes you feel better, you’re welcome to believe that.”
“I just want true answers!”
“True… hmmm? What is Truth? Would it have been True to say you were a man? A mere week ago, if I told you you’d always be a man, did I speak the truth? What if you never turned into a woman, would that then be the truth?” She shrugged casually as if the answer wasn’t important to her.
“Stop playing with me,” I responded angrily.
“I never changed a single thing about you other than your anatomy.” She responded simply. “If that means that your tastes changed with it, then that is simply the way things are. You can blame it on hormones. Blame it on electrical impulses. However, it is ultimately up to you what you like and do not like. If you like a man, then that is who you are now. If you do not tomorrow, then that is how you are then.”
“…” I didn’t know how to respond to that.
I wasn’t even that angry about the fact that I had been with a man. I still felt my heart beating faster whenever I thought about Mr. Conner. The feeling was pretty nice. My anger came from the bad decisions I had made. It came from the guy I had gone home with, and the other who ended up groping me. That was the only reason I was truly angry.
“Why are you here?” I asked.
“Hmm? To maintain appearances.” She shrugged. “At the moment, the people out there see me as the old you.”
As if to prove this point, she waved as a woman passed by heading to the restroom. She took one look at her, then turned her head and walked away icily.
“Hehe… you’re not very liked. No one bothers me, it makes this job easy.”
“Move over, I need to work.”
“Be my guest.”

I went through all the documents and did my typical reporting. That woman managed to stay out of my way to the point that I didn’t pay attention to when she disappeared. Since I had been distracted the last few days, I found myself working a lot later, past the time when the store was closed. I submitted the last paper deep into the night, leaning back in the chair and trying to rub my back.
I had changed into a pair of clothing I had left at work, so I wasn’t still in the unfortunate outfit I had worn last night. The shirt was a bit tight around my chest though, and I tied the sports jacket around my hips. It felt too cold in the store, but I felt hot out here.
Rubbing my temples after staring at the computer for so long, a knock on the window caused me to nearly jump out of my chair. The store was closed, and the clerks were doing their last walkthrough cleaning. They didn’t need me to be around to do any of that, which is why I wasn’t expecting the knock. I looked out of my office to see Mr. Conner’s there. I broke into a smile, and I realized I felt somewhat happy he was there.
No, I could accept that I was sexually attracted to Mr. Conner, but there was no way I would have emotional feelings for him! Why would I feel happy just to see him?
I walked over and opened the door, peeking out into the dark backroom. “What are you doing out here?”
“Since you had a long day, I thought you might like dinner.” He responded, scratching the back of his head. “I’m not very good at this. I’m asking if you’d like to go out. With me.”
“Yeah… I got it.” I cursed my heart for suddenly beating excitedly again. “Fine. We can go.”
“I thought you might not have a ride home too.”
“That’s right, my car is still at the bar,” I said, my brow creasing a bit.
“Ah, after the date, I’ll swing you around by there and you can drive it home.”
“A d-date? Is that what we’re on?”
“Is that okay?” He asked, throwing me a dazzling smile.
I couldn’t fight the blush filling my cheeks, nor the way my body felt. I had always respected Mr. Conner, but I had also always resented him in many ways. Either feeling I never could have imagined would morph into attraction, no matter what body I was in.
“Y-yeah…” I responded weakly, feeling even more lost.
We got into Mr. Connor’s Mercedes and he drove. At that point, I realized I wasn’t wearing anything remotely appropriate for a date.
“Ah… my clothing… this is just my work suit… we shouldn’t…”
“Oh! Sorry, I didn’t think about that.” He nodded. “Then, do you want to swing by your house first? I can wait.”
“I don’t have a dress!” I cried out in shock.
Since the change, I hadn’t gone out to buy any clothing. I had been wearing a cross between unisex clothing I happened to own and clothing women had left at my place when they stayed over.
“Well, if you’re not a girl who wears dresses, don’t do it on my account.”
“No… actually, I just need… maybe we can reschedule.”
“Don’t worry about it. I see a department store over there. They’ll have everything you need. It’ll be on me.”
“R-really?”
“Yeah, I sprung this on you out of the blue, so how about I treat you.”
“Then, thank you.” I felt a bit more relaxed as he pulled up in front of the store.
When we both entered the store, I realized again that I had no clue what I was doing. Shopping for a woman wasn’t an act I could just do while under his eyes.
“W-wait here! I’ll be back once I select the stuff, okay?”
“Huh? Yeah, okay…” He smiled, as I turned and ran off.
I went straight to the women’s clothing and immediately couldn’t find a thing. Five minutes of walking around, and I felt tears in my eyes. It was all just too much.
“Ma’am… do you need any help?”
Without thinking about it, I reached out and grabbed her shirt. “I look like a mess, and I’m about to go on a date with a rich guy. I have no clue what I’m doing.”
The girl was shocked, but after a moment, she gave a smile and leaned close. “The guy standing around in the front?”
I nodded dumbly, feeling like an idiot.
“Come here… let’s get you set up.”
She took me out of the clothing aisles, and the next thing I knew she walked me into a hair and nail salon that was built into the back of the department store. She sat me down and then went over to another woman. They whispered to each other a bit, and then they both smiled.
The new girl walked up to me, looking me up and down considering, “So, you need your hair done, some makeup, and your nails done.”
“N-no…” I looked at the other girl, but she was already walking away quickly. “Clothing?”
“Please, if you think all it takes to impress a guy is clothing, you’ll be single your whole life.” She laughed. “Here, baby, I got you covered. I’ll need some help!”
She called out to the back, and another girl came out. Soon, one girl was doing something to my hair while the other was doing something to my nails. A few more girls seemed to notice what was happening, and I heard women talking all around me about styles.
“Do you have any preference?” The woman working on my hair asked.
“Um… no, I don’t know anything about this stuff?”
“A country girl?” One of the girls asked. “Yeah, I used to live out in the country too. Don’t worry, we’ll make him drool like a dog.”
“Ah…” For some reason, I didn’t hate the sound of that.
As the hairstylist finished my hair, another girl started doing my makeup. My nails had also been painted, and she was now drying them. At this point, the first lady I had asked in the beginning appeared, and she had bundles of clothes in her hands. I felt a little more confident in this area. After all, as a former man, I knew what men liked to see on women.
In the end, I was outvoted, as my picks didn’t fit my body type and complexion, whatever that meant. About an hour after I came, I finally was dressed up and pushed out. About six women had gathered and contributed at this point, and they all watched with big smiles as I walked down the path to the front of the store. Mr. Conner was sitting there looking bored when he noticed me coming and stood up. As soon as he laid eyes on me, his mouth fell slightly open. I felt a surge of happiness seeing him look at me that way.
“I’m sorry it took so long,” I said, not able to keep myself from feeling a bit shy.
“Not at all…”
We went to the cash register to pay.
“How much?” He cried out helplessly.
“I-I’m sorry…” I responded, feeling like crying.
It turned out that their smiles were more at being able to get a rich guy to spend a ton of money at their store. When Mr. Conner looked at me again, there was no hesitation or regret in his eyes.
“You’re worth every penny.”
