Chapter 2718

A week had passed since Cal had set his various projects in motion. The mansion buzzed with activity, each person engrossed in their assigned tasks. Although Cal hadn’t made her do anything, Hope also had found a task important to her. Since he had entrusted her to become his white mage, she needed to start studying magic in earnest. She had spent the better part of the week holed up in the mansion’s library, poring over every book on magic she could find. Now, she stood in the hallway, the last tome closed in her hands, feeling a mix of exhilaration and frustration.

The books had left her with more questions than answers. Teaching herself magic from scratch turned out to be more complicated than she expected. The magic in this world had a musical property to it. Magic spells had a rhythm, and rhythm was something impossible to teach in a book. Thankfully, she knew of a very skilled mage.

Her first stop was the backyard, where Horny and Mimi were finishing the hot spring. Cal had called it a bath, and there was technically no nearby volcano with underground thermal vents. Yet, he had tasked two of the girls to figure that out, and with Mimi’s strength and Horny’s aptitude, it was only missing water. The ground had been dug out; steam seemed to be rising from several small cracks. They were just working on the infrastructure.

“Horny, can I ask you something?” Hope approached cautiously, not wanting to disrupt their work.

Horny glanced up, her eyes narrowing as she took in Hope’s eager expression.

“What do you want, human?” she sneered.

Hope took a deep breath, trying to ignore the dismissive tone. “I’ve been studying magic, and I have some questions. I thought maybe you could help.”

Horny scoffed, turning back to her task. “Why would I help you? You’re just a human. Your piddling amount of mana couldn’t light a candle. Go bother someone else.”

Hope’s shoulders slumped, but she kept her friendly smile and thanked Horny and moved on. She had been hoping the other girl had eased up a bit after a week. After all, she was doing the tasks Cal gave her. It was fine, though. She had a second option. Her next stop was the alchemy lab, where Milky and Lolipop were hard at work creating potions. The room was filled with the scent of herbs and the faint glow of magical energy. They had seemingly gotten large vats nearly the same size as them, and were pouring large quantities of mixture from one vat into the next.

“Milky, do you have a moment?” Hope asked softly, not wanting to interrupt their concentration.

Milky looked up, her eyes cold.

“What is it, Hope?” she asked, her voice as icy to match.

“I was hoping you could answer some questions about magic. I’ve been studying, but I’m still confused about a few things.”

Milky’s expression didn’t change. “There is no point. Your mana level is so low that any techniques I gave you would be meaningless. It’d be like giving a thief the sword skills of an armored knight. He wouldn’t even be able to lift the knight’s sword, let alone complete his attacks.”

Hope felt a lump form in her throat, but she managed a small smile. “Okay, thank you anyway.”

Chapter 2719

As she left the lab, she felt a growing sense of upset. She had always been top of her class. She was considered quite the genius, so being talked down to by these story characters left her feeling abnormally bitter. She wandered the mansion before running into Deses. He was standing on a porch where he was watching Cal.

Cal was sitting there on a lounge chair on the front lawn. Lady Diana was taking turns giving him sips of iced tea and then rubbing his feet as he bathed under the sun. As soon as Hope approached him, Deses began speaking.

“He assembles a party so he can laze about.” His voice seemed bitter. “If he keeps going like this, he won’t be ready for the demon king. He’s wasting his time!”

“I-I see…”

“I’m sorry.” Deses must have heard something in her voice, as he turned to her and his expression softened. “Did you need me?”

Hope stood next to him, looking out across the small town. “I’ve been studying magic, but I feel like I’m not getting anywhere. Anywhere else, I could use magic with ease, but this place is different.”

“Every story has its magic system,” Deses explained. “You’re bound to be better with some systems than others. I know my sister is a genius in manipulating the weave, but the concept of a weave doesn’t even exist within this story. It’s like a whole new language. You can’t apply what you used to know.”

“Even if you say that…” Hope didn’t look convinced. “Even when it comes to relearning magic, my magic is so much weaker here. Why is that?”

Deses glanced over at her. “Hope, you and I both have the status of average humans in this world. We’re average, so that we can blend in properly. Our magic stats are nothing special compared to elves or demons. That’s why your magic seems weak.”

“So, it’s this story at fault?” Hope asked bitterly.

“Yup.” Deses nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. “In another story, humans could have the most magic, or everyone could be equal. Of course, you and I aren’t bound to the narrative like everyone else. If those girls continue to bully you, you could always show them a wink of your true power.”

“Ah!” Hope gasped and then grew flustered. “Wh-who said I’m being bullied?”

Deses raised an eyebrow, and Hope blushed. Deses just knew his sister all too well. She wouldn’t be approaching him upset if they hadn’t said anything.

“We’re like gods to the people born here. Putting them in their place would be as easy for you as flipping a page. I’m sure those girls would treat you with respect if they understood your status.”

She bit her lip and then shook her head. “It’s against the rules to use our powers to alter the narrative. No one here can know that they exist within a narrative. Father would be disappointed if I broke these rules just because my feelings are hurt.”

“Sister is correct.” Deses patted her on the head, his expression gentle. “You’re a wonderful person, Hope. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.”

She let out a sigh. “Maybe I can find someone in town who can give me a bit of tutoring. Thank you, Brother. I feel better.”

“Anytime,” Deses waved and watched her leave before his expression hardened and he muttered to himself. “Then again, if the only way to set a story on its proper path is to break the rules, then I’ll have no choice.”

Chapter 2720

The afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the backyard as Mimi and Horny proudly announced the completion of their project. The once-overgrown plot of land had been transformed into a stunning underground pool. Steam rose gently from the ground, and the air was filled with a pleasant, earthy scent. The hole was deep and wide, exactly as Cal had specified, and the heated gas rising from below promised a soothing, warm bath.

“It’s done, Master!” Mimi declared, her chest heaving with pride and exertion.

Her clothes were dirty and torn from the hard work, but her smile was radiant.

Horny, on the other hand, looked slightly disheveled but equally proud. “Of course, we still must fill it with water. This will take a few weeks. We’ll have to import water from a larger source. Even if we took all the water in the town well, it wouldn’t be enough to fill all the deep channels this uses.”

Cal snorted, raising his hand. Suddenly, a river of water flowed from his palm, filling the pool in an instant. Mimi and Horny were splashed, their clothes becoming see-through and clinging to their bodies.

“Master! What do you think you’re doing?” Horny pointed at Cal angrily.

That’s when she noticed Cal’s eyes weren’t on her. She followed his eyes down to her chest, which was pretty much fully visible through her wet clothing. She cried out, blushing deeply before she ran off into the mansion. Mimi, however, stood her ground, a slight blush on her cheeks as she allowed Cal to admire her. She even struck a pose, showing off her body. He smiled as he continued to dump a seemingly endless stream into the pool until it filled.

“It should be hot by tonight,” Cal declared, his eyes twinkling with satisfaction. “Meet up here then.”

Deses, who had been watching nearby, spoke up. “I have something to do. I need to leave for a while.”

Hope looked surprised. “Leave? Where is Brother going?”

Deses shook his head. “Just some business. Don’t worry about it. I’ll be back soon.”

Cal waved casually. “Go ahead. We’ll be fine here.”

That night, as the sun set and the stars began to twinkle in the sky, the girls gathered in the backyard. The pool was steaming, inviting them to dip in.

Cal looked over the girls with a greedy grin, “Since swimwear doesn’t exist in this world, we’ll just have to go naked. It’s a bath, after all.”

Hope bristled. “That’s not true! Swimwear does exist in this world.”

Cal was already ripping off his clothes. She saw his naked body before she could cover her eyes, but a moment later, a splash, and he was in the pool. By the time she looked again, the other girls were stripping down and entering the warm water.

Lady Diana looked over at Horny in surprise. “You’re joining us?”

“If I were the only one who didn’t get to enjoy it after spending a week building it, it’d be a shame,” Horny muttered, but there was a hint of pride in her voice.

Hope ended up being the only one still standing there. She was shivering as it was a bit cold out. The pool looked warm and inviting, and besides Cal, everyone else was a girl. It wasn’t much different than the communal baths back home. She finally put aside her pride and got into the pool, taking off her underwear last.

“My grand plan is finally coming together,” he murmured.

Hope, feeling a strange sensation inside her, asked, “What plan is that?”

Cal grinned. “To take a bath with six naked beauties.”

The girls took his words in different ways. Milky and Lady Diana, who were already pressed against him on both sides, became even more affectionate, their hands roaming over his body. Horny snorted but looked pleased. Lolipop looked embarrassed, her head down, but she remained in the pool. Mimi stared at him with desire, her eyes filled with longing.

Hope felt a strange mix of emotions, confusion, and excitement warring within her. She had never been in a situation like this before, and she wasn’t sure how to react. But as the night wore on, and the warmth of the pool and the company of the other girls began to relax her, she found herself enjoying the experience more than she thought she would.

That night, after their bath, a new visitor knocked on Cal’s door. He invited her in, and soon, moaning filled the mansion anew.
