My Dungeon Life – Chapter 1722-1724
Chapter 1722
We still had another twelve hours of out journey, but since it was night out, I figured it was best to get rest when I needed it. Strictly speaking, I didn’t need rest as much as I once used to. If I needed to go a few days without sleep, that could be done. That didn’t mean I shouldn’t take the opportunity to rest when I could.
In general, the airship wasn’t the roomiest of places. Even ships on the water didn’t have a lot of space. The transport ship I had taken with Eliana had barely managed to give each of us quarters, and the paladins had to sleep out on the deck. This airship was about the same size, but not only did we have to hold Anne, Mary, and their honor guards, but also me, the lionesses, and all of the girls of my harem including maids. Even Sapphire came along with two other deep dwarf blacksmiths. Suffice it to say that the ship was extremely crowded.
I had only been allocated three rather small rooms. Anne and Mary were each given a room, as was the Esmere, so getting three just for myself and my entourage could already be considered generous. First and the lionesses refused to sleep in the rooms, opting instead to find places in the hallway or on the deck. One room went to the maids and functioned as their maid quarters, one went to my girls, and the final one went to me. The past me might have refused to accept a room just for myself, but I had slowly been learning that as a lord, some things were expected of me. I had to show that I was the lord and leader, so I got a room to myself while my girls had to take turns sharing between the near dozen of them.
Thankfully, the airship moved faster than a boat, and even though we were traveling about the same distance, it only would take around two days instead of a week. I had considered just tossing the girls into my soul world. It had seemed to grow a bit and now covered more space. It had also started to regrow the trees and plants that had been destroyed during the previous times I had to ravage or recreate my soul world.
The reason I didn’t give the girls my soul world was because while it might give them some space, it would prevent me from getting any peace. It wasn’t just me either. The soul world functioned as Alysia’s home these days, and she preferred a quiet lifestyle. If I suddenly dumped all of the girls in there to fight and play, it would disrupt her peace as much as my own.
Furthermore, I’d normally invite the girls into my room, but Terra couldn’t fit downstairs and was forced to remain on the deck with the lionesses. If I had any of the girls in my room, it’d end up causing even more commotion. In the end, I found a comfortable spot in my bed and waited. However, before I fell asleep, there was a light knock on my door.
“Come in,” I said.
A moment later, a person appeared in my room, even though the door hadn’t opened or closed. That as none other than Celeste, who had shrunk down to pass through a crack in the door and then grew back to her full size. I immediately noticed she had a worried look on her face, and so I sat up.
“What is it?” I asked.
“As Master ordered, I kept a watch on our new guest,” Celeste spoke uncertainly. “You might want to hear this.”
Chapter 1723
Rea was a mysterious animalkin girl who was suddenly on our ship. Although I felt like helping her, that didn’t mean I would foolishly ignore her. I had experienced too much in this world, so no sooner had I brought her up than I had sent a slave communication to Celeste to watch after her. It may seem like Shao would have been the better choice, as she was the assassin skilled in shadow magic. Next to her, the only person better suited might have been Rea.
However, when you were nearby, no one was a better spy than Celeste. This was because she had sensitivity to vibrations, and could hear everything going on around her. Unless someone specifically used magic to block her, she was aware of everything that was going on in the ship. She could also change to any size, making it easy to hide. That didn’t even speak to her extreme speed, and her dominancy in the air. Being on an airship, she had the most flexibility, able to even float outside someone’s window if the mood struck her.
There was another reason I didn’t pick Shao though. That was because Shao was a bit intense at times. Celeste was extremely gentle-natured and kind, and I knew she would act harshly no matter what happened. If things went south, I wouldn’t have doubted Shao would have stabbed first and asked questions later. As a former gladiator who had lived her life as do or die, it would be no surprise that she would act that way.
“What’s the issue?” I asked.
Celeste didn’t hesitate as she fluttered to my side. With a wave of her hand, a sound suddenly could be heard.
“Are you all here?” I heard Rea’s voice.
It was every bit as good as a communication stone. I knew this had to be a new skill of Celeste’s. It appeared to be able to take sound from somewhere else and transfer it nearby. It wasn’t just a very sensitive hearing, as the sound didn’t come out distorted or muffled at all. I wondered if we’d be able to use these talents of hers with other applications shortly.
“Hmph… when you said you could get on board the ship, I had my doubts. You’re pretty useful for a recruit.” A gruff man’s voice spoke, causing my eyebrows to furrow. “When the guild master told us to follow your lead, I thought she was crazy. Just what is your relationship with her anyway?”
“That’s none of your concern,” Rea responded coldly. “Your job is to eliminate the target. Can you do it?”
“Kill a measly lord? You must be joking.”
“That lord was able to take on the king of Dioshin and win. He’s not as simple as he seems. If you’re arrogant, you’re only going to wind up dead.” She responded angrily. “I knew I should have just handled this myself.”
There were several angry mutters before the leader spoke up. “Hey, watch your tongue. You may be the guild master’s pet, but we’re the true professionals. We know what we’re doing. I have a surefire way of dealing with him. He’ll be dead before he realizes it.”
There was a moment of silence, and then Rea spoke again. “Fine. Kill Deek Deekson, as for those being controlled by his slavery, they will not be harmed!”
Chapter 1724
I leaned back in the bed, deep in thought. It turned out that my worst suspicions were true. A girl suddenly appearing in need of saving? She resembled someone I cared about? When she heard my name, she instantly came on board? All of that had been suspicious. It seemed like the assassin’s guild did have it out for me, and she had just been a trap used to make it easier to get to me. Worst of all, they were moving quickly, and there would be some kind of assassination attempt tonight. I wasn’t that worried though. No sooner had I Celeste arrived to deliver me information than I had heard communications from my other girls.
“Master, I sense assassins on board. Should I take care of them?” Shao asked.
“Some suspicious people just came on the ship, Master,” Miki reported.
“I sense something is going on.” Lydia also reported.
When I pulled up my map, I even had the entire ship mapped out and could see the red dot and where they were hiding. Interestingly enough, Rea didn’t appear as red. She was hostile, so I should see her as an enemy. I had learned in the past that who was seen as red and who was seen as grey or green depended on my perception. If I saw someone as my enemy, even if they weren’t actively attacking me, they would be red. Likewise, if an ally attacked me, they wouldn’t necessarily turn red. However, in Rea’s case, her intention was clear.
“Although she’s a bit misguided,” I spoke out loud.
“She seems to have a dislike for slavery,” Celeste spoke up. “Earlier, she grew upset when we called you master.”
“I see…”
I didn’t know what to think of Rea. I had a growing feeling like she had some poor opinions about me. When she had tried to come onto me earlier, was that some kind of honeypot? Whoever she was, she was young and inexperienced. I had a feeling she was being misled by this guild master. My running assumption was that they were talking about the guild master of the assassination guild, who appeared to know Rea.
“What should we do, Master?” Celeste asked.
I gave it some thought. These assassins were already on board. If I immediately attacked, they probably had some kind of means of escaping quickly. At best, we’d capture them and they’d kill themselves just like the last batch. If Rea were to take some kind of poison and die, I felt like that would be a shame. Even though I now knew that she was deliberately selected to try to keep my guard down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t want her to face a bad end. It was a strange kind of feeling. I wouldn’t exactly call it intuition. Maybe, it had to do with being so close to the Abyss.
“Alright, stay close and watch them. Let’s let them make their move. We can set up a trap around them. I want to capture one of the assassins this time alive.” I thought about it for a second and then added. “If Rea doesn’t reveal herself, then ignore her for now.”
Let’s see how the assassin guild’s second assassination attempt went. Since I was the only one they were after, I was confident we could catch them in their trap.
