My Dungeon Life – Chapter 1770-1772
Chapter 1770
After a couple long days and nights, I decided to take it easy and rest. I woke up early in the morning energized for the next day. When I opened the door, I found a folder waiting for me. It was interesting to see that they used sheets of paper instead of scrolls, perhaps something else they had learned from that dungeon. I opened up the folder and found an itinerary based on the selections we had made yesterday. It was an hour-by-hour schedule of all of the activities we would do, even including our meals. It offered no freedom. I considered ignoring it, but then I noticed a letter tucked into it. This was not originally part of the folder but had been snuck in at a different point and time.
I have set up a time for you to meet with the golem workshop. Please follow the itinerary as scheduled. You will be redirected as needed.
Lady Seeired
The note was short, but it reassured me that the lady was going to keep her word, regardless of whatever I discussed with Lord Vandeer. Well, it wasn’t like I had made some agreement with him. If anything, I had equalized whatever little debt existed between us. In exchange for the various expenses we had earned, I had given him one of the bottles of Waters of Life. In my mind, that meant that any future negotiations could be made on equal footing.
However, that was still a few days away, and a lot could happen in those few days. The actual date of the trade agreement had also been set in the itinerary, and it was to be made the day before we left. That made sense. The entire point of the proceeding week was for Jespain to amaze us and show us everything they had to offer. In many ways, it was like one of those timeshares. They didn’t whip out a contract in the beginning. They spent half a day buttering you up with free meals, lengthy presentations, and such.
I had just finished reviewing the itinerary when there was a knock on my door. It was Faeyna, who had come to dress me and clean me. I didn’t need help dressing, but she did have useful cleanup magic that was rather refreshing. When she finished, I kissed her, causing her to blush before excusing herself. It was good we’d be seeing the golem workshop today. Afterward, I wondered if I could fit some fun with my girls within that schedule.
Speaking of which, it looked like the breakfast was coming up. Although Jespain had given me a lot to worry about, I was still determined to relax a little bit. So far, I hadn’t committed to anything and the future fate of Jespain wasn’t something I had a lot of stake in. It was fine to take it easy for a bit. Marina knocked on my door, and the girls and I were escorted to a private dining room where food was already laid out.
As soon as I started eating, I noticed that my place set didn’t have a drink. Just as I was about to get a drink, a girl appeared in front of me. It was Rea and she had a somewhat shy expression while she held out a glass to me.
“I-I brought you something to drink.” She responded, not meeting my eyes. “I-I wanted to apologize for my rudeness earlier, so this is a peace offering.”
“Oh… thanks?” I blinked, as she turned away and returned to her seat.
I raised the drink to my lips.
“Master, you do know that’s poisoned, right?” Alysia asked.
“Oh, yeah.” I drank it down.
Chapter 1771
Was I able to taste the poison? It was hard to say. I wasn’t that familiar with the fruit drink she had given me, so I didn’t know if the bitter taste was a poison or just a fruit, I was unused to. However, I had long left Poison Immunity equipped with my rather hefty supply of dungeon points. The only time I turned it off was when I had some reason to get drunk. Normally, the poison wouldn’t affect me, and I had many powerful anti-poison spells as a White Mage, which I also cast on the cup when she wasn’t looking.
This would be her third assassination attempt. As for why I accepted the drink, what kind of man would I be if I refused something a girl earnestly made for me? That wasn’t the reason. I just didn’t want to tip her off I was suspicious of her. Knowing she was an assassin, I just needed to keep a close watch on her and she’d tip me off to any assassination attempts. If she failed, then wouldn’t the next one be harder and potentially more dangerous, like the explosion at the church? At the least, she wasn’t willing to cause collateral damage, and her attempts felt almost juvenile in comparison.
As the meal finished and I drank the rest of the drink, Rea had taken various glances my way, and her eyes which had originally seemed eager and excited slowly grew sullen as she saw that the poison wasn’t having any effect. The meal came to an end rather quickly. It was an omelet on rice with some fruit on the side, which seemed appropriate to the eastern food culture they were going for to me. However, Jespain was in the west, so would that be the western food culture?
“Your rides are waiting outside. You’ve been broken into groups based on your itineraries. Please make sure to enter the appropriate vehicle or you may be taken to the wrong area.” Marina explained.
We were led back into the main lobby. The atmosphere of everyone else watching and remaining distant remained from the day before. I looked over at my girls who were discussing their itineraries excitedly.
“Sapphire, Terra, stay with me.”
“Ah!” Sapphire let out a cry. “But my itinerary says that I should be- ugg.”
Terra was more used to being subservient and quickly saw that I had something in mind, so she nudged the other girl. However, where they used to be the same size, Terra’s golem form was much larger and that little nudge was enough to nearly send the other girl to the floor.
She quickly stood up, glaring at Terra who could only shrug. This did cause a little bit of trouble as Terra couldn’t fit in the standard carriage and they needed to get a different one. Rather than wait, I decided to store her in my soul world. Marina was a bit shocked when the golem suddenly disappeared, but it wasn’t like she was in a place where she could ask questions, and I wasn’t giving answers.
We entered the vehicle and started forward, soon splitting off from some of the other vehicles. Other than Sapphire, it was Mary who was surprisingly apart from her sister, as well as the esmere who were joining me. The other girls all chose different workshops today.
“You’re interested in the automaton workshops?” I asked.
My schedule that day had been filled with workshops on complex machinery and automaton design. I hadn’t discussed my choices with Terra or Sapphire. They might have already been in my group, but I knew Sapphire had other interests in their metalworking, smithing, and so-on which might have put her in another group. However, what would the church or esmere want with golems?
Chapter 1772
“Is it so surprising?” Pait asked. “Esmore is a mountainous region with low valleys. Our primary export is metal and ore. We have constantly used machinery to run the mines and to bring supplies up and down from the mountains. If the Jespain has any technology that could make that process easier, we’d like to learn about it.”
I hadn’t thought about it before, but it made sense. In my world, we had all kinds of complicated machines that were needed. Even hundreds of years ago, trolly systems and pully systems were built to mine successfully. The esmere wouldn’t be any different just because this was a fantasy world. Magic might help them a little bit. Mineral Appraiser jobs could do a few things, but few people were as powerful as Terra when it came to earth magic. After all, she even had a special relationship with Gaia.
“Perhaps, we should negotiate some kind of trade agreement,” I spoke thoughtfully.
The esmere with the smooth voice snorted. “We already have a trade agreement with Aberis. Most of our supplies get transported through Aberis to the Imperial Cloud Meadow. Your poor bandit-filled road systems have cost us greatly. The fact that we have to pay you with a percentage of the goods is ludicrous. I’ve argued we should throw out such an agreement years ago.”
The other esmere seemed to have a spiteful, almost angry tone, but his voice was so smooth why did I not even feel upset? Pait acted a bit more tactfully, holding up his hands.
“It’s not like that! We’ve benefited greatly from Aberis’s assistance.” Pait tried to smooth things out.
He had formerly been the ambassador in Aberis, so maintaining peace with our country was likely extremely important to him.
“Do you honestly think an agreement with Master would be the same thing as an agreement with Aberis?” Sapphire asked.
“Hmph…” The other man blinked, but then snorted, saying no more.
I frowned a bit too. I knew Sapphire was just trying to protect my honor, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. Once I became a Duke, I would be able to make treaties through my territory. Since I was in control of the wilderness, then I could theoretically build a road spanning across the entire country uniting Esmore and the Imperial Cloud Meadow, and I could even protect it with soldiers. However, wouldn’t that be helping the Imperial Cloud? I still didn’t know where we stood with them. It had been ages since I had dealt with them, but their quiet did worry me.
I shook my head, putting such thoughts behind me and turning to Mary. “What about you?”
“Have you forgotten that Clockwork Dragon so easily?” Mary asked.
Although I couldn’t see here, I could feel Terra perking up with interest at Mary’s words. I had forgotten about that. Wasn’t the clockwork dragon somehow involved with the church? I had originally concluded that the church was dangerous because of my first encounter with them. I had eventually realized that they were rather benign.
“What does the clockwork dragon have to do with you?” I asked hesitantly, realizing I had never really bothered to get to the bottom of that.
“I believe that the technology the Jespain use to build their current automatons is the same technology that built the clockwork dragons!”
