from what i understood based on what the dragon’s said a few arcs back and the few snippets we got in the abyss arc/s each world in the multiverse is a powerful god soul, Twilight is the miasmic soul component of the original gaia – a god soul being 50% mana and 50% miasmic, when the fae weapons were used against the humans it tore a hole between the two parts of gaia’s soul, splitting her into two and creating two personas, Gaia and twilight – this is also not the only world this has happened to from what the demons have been saying,
as miasma and mana feed into each other when the god soul’s whole the two parts work in cohesion, but because they are split, and the mana portion of gaia is weakened by invaders and injury the balance is out of whack, leaving twilight doing what miasma does and is trying to devour the mana of gaia in a way that is destructively rampant, she’s not so much evil as dangerously out of control doing what she’s always meant to do
