“I acted purely on impule” is the most idiodic excuse i’ve ever seen. lyra not recognizing him was so obvious it was painful. I could understand if he tried to explain himself and failed to convince her, that’s at least reasonable, though in reality he knows things that only clyburn should know and should probably be successful in explaining without too much issue. I knew whatsawhizzer likes using these bullshit misunderstandings between characters for some reason, but i really didn’t think he’d actually write something this stupid. clyburn has NEVER been shown to be someone this idiotic and suddenly you’re gonna pull out “oh i didn’t realize she couldn’t recognize me in this vile prince’s body” she also said ‘no’ repeatedly and resisted at every step. clyburn has never been a rapist, never pushed a girl when she said no, now the one time he does commit rape, it’s because he’s confused? come on man. I like that you’ve made this harsh world feel so realistic. but this seriously just took me completely out of my immersion. there is no amount of suspension of disbelief that’s going to convince me that clyburn is actually this big of a dumbass without ever having any prior indication that he’s actually incompetent. if it’s necessary for the plot that she doesn’t recognize him right now, then just let him fail to convince her. “did I just ntr myself” is not a good enough punchline for ruining your main character’s credibility or your reader’s immersion.
what’s worse is that his first thoughts after he realized were not to chase after and explain it to her or try to fix his fuckup, but instead he thought “I can’t believe she fucked someone other that me”. what the actual fuck are you smoking. this is the same guy who just last volume told a girl he doesn’t judge based on virginity. i guess it’s a little different now since he already has a relationship with her, but still. that’s his first fucking thought? not “oh shit i gotta tell her”. man you come up with such interesting worlds and great characters to draw a reader in just to shit all over your own story with these random contrivances and bullshit trains of thought. at least in my dungeon life i could somewhat understand the character development leading to some of the mc’s coldness towards his family, but this? This is a guy who’s biggest worry right now is the family he left behiind, the same guy who has repeatedly put his life on the line to protect his lovers, and his first thought after he realized he accidentally raped a girl he loves is ‘holy shit she totally cheated on me’ I call bullshit.
